In the piney wood a red bird is calling. A flash of feathers and a flutter of wings end in a small shower of rust colored needles at my feet. I have come for a wealth of fallen cones for the mantle and the fire. The smell of amber sap on my hands and shirt, the odor of boughs, lasts the whole day through.
