In the dappled light of the creek bed, melt water rushes past jutting rocks, jewel colors of serpentine and jasper. A regal maple spreads its branches, shading trout and crawfish in shallow pools. We’ve walked a long ways to hear the solitary song of water, bird calls and wind rustling leaves in high branches. In my pocket, a beautiful spotted leaf, my humble souvenir of the wild.
